TRADITIONAL SAUNA VS. INFRARED SAUNA: WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE?

Let's talk about the difference between a traditional sauna and a full spectrum sauna. Here at Rooted Method, we have only full spectrum saunas and we are big believers in full spectrum saunas. Let’s break it down:

• The full spectrum sauna does not go up to super high temperatures like a traditional sauna would go. Our saunas go up to about 170 degrees. However, we recommend that our clients go in around a temperature of 130 because we don't want to put the body into fight or flight response and boost cortisol or push the body into a state of being stressed. Infrared saunas gently heat the body from the inside out. The near, mid and far heaters that we have penetrate deep into your skin, going through all of the layers, and getting all kinds of benefits at the cellular level as the heat hits the cells and those cells begin to detox.

• With the power of full spectrum saunas, as your cells detoxify, you're also going to be emptying some of your trace minerals that you need, such as magnesium, potassium, sodium, and electrolytes. So it's important that when you're in a sauna that you're hydrating really well AND replacing these minerals. We have lots of good options of beverages and electrolytes for purchase and also recommend bringing a water bottle that you can refill here.

• You don't need to stay in an infrared sauna as long as a traditional sauna. We recommend about 30-40 minutes and we offer 20 minute or 40 minute sessions so you can choose based on your personal goals and comfort level.

• Because a traditional sauna is going to heat the body from the outside in, you're going to start sweating much quicker with the traditional sauna. But, 90% of that sweat is water. So it takes longer to get to that cellular level and the “quality” of that sweat is going to take a longer time to develop. Therefore, you can detox quicker and more efficiently in an infrared sauna than in a traditional steam sauna.
