INFRARED SAUNA 101

At Rooted Method, we have four Clearlight infrared saunas, each in an individual private suite. In one suite, we also have a cold plunge for cold exposure or contrast therapy sessions. In this video, we walk you through what to expect in a typical session. We make it our priority to provide everything you need for a brief respite from the hectic pace of everyday life. Here is what to expect:

• Depending on how you booked the appointment, your session will either be for 40 minutes or 20 minutes. We provide a timer in each suite to do all of the thinking and time your session for you. You have use of your private suite for the entire 20 or 40 minutes and this includes preparing for, entering and exiting the sauna and dressing and undressing.

• Your sauna will be prepared for you with a large bath towel to sit on and dry off with after your session, a small hand towel for sweat, a floor mat for comfort, a cotton body wrap to wear in the sauna (if you choose) and a chilled, essential oil-infused washcloth for after your session.

• Our saunas are full spectrum with near, mid and far heaters on all sides. We have 2 smaller single-person saunas as well as 2 larger saunas for 2-4 people.

• Each sauna has a chromotherapy light in the ceiling that changes colors. There are various health benefits to the different colors and you can set it to automatically cycle through or to stay on one color. If you prefer, you can turn the lights off also.

• The recommended temperature for a full spectrum sauna is about 130. You can adjust your temperature hotter or cooler, depending on personal preference. Full spectrum sauna is going to heat from the inside out, so your core temperature is going to heat up first, so it is important to remember that the benefits of infrared are there regardless of how much you actually sweat.

• If you're not used to the heat, you may want to start with (and/or stay at) 20 minutes. At any point in your session if you feel like you're getting nauseous, light-headed or unusually uncomfortable, we suggest opening the door or slowly stepping out of the sauna for a few minutes.

• We have fans inside each room for comfort after or during your session. There are 2 sets of ambiance lighting in each sauna and these can also be adjusted for reading, relaxing, meditating or comfort.

• We also have a red light therapy tower in each sauna. If you want to take advantage of the red light therapy, we suggest doing that right when you get in, before your body temperature heats up as that's when you’ll get the most benefit. 10 minutes is perfect amount of time or you can choose longer on the control panel. This is great for collagen production, also great for muscle and joint rehab, cell renewal. We provide sun goggles for comfort during your session if you choose to use them.
